IPMS LAO:01 – Mathematics
ISP pilot support was provided in 2014 and 2015 until the group became part of the network SEAMaN (se IPMS SEAMaN)
IPPS LAO:01 – Development of the Geophysics Unit.
This is a research group supported by ISP since 2005.
Objectives
The research activities of this group include two different projects:
One of such projects is to study the groundwater, using geophysical methods in three selected pilot districts such as Atsaphangthong, Phalanxai and Phin of Savannakhet Province, Laos. The main aims are:
1) to assess the groundwater conditions in the studied area (to determine depth to groundwater aquifers and delineate fresh and saline groundwater considering the salt affected groundwater);
2) to construct wells for confirming the geophysical results and for future water supply for the target communities; 3) then to provide a mapping of potential groundwater for future researchers who are interested in this field in the study sites.
The second research activity is focussed on rock magnetism and palaeomagnetism of the central and northern parts of the Indochina Blocks during Permian-Triassic time from the Permian-Triassic volcanic rocks (PTRV) in Laos and NE Thailand, and Permian-Triassic rocks in northeastern Laos, Triassic rocks in central and southern Laos.
