IPPS KEN:01/2 – Application of nuclear and associated analytical techniques in environmental Science studies in Kenya.
The group has been supported by ISP since 1991.
Objectives
The overall goals of the activity are to motivate research interest within the Kenyan youth pursuing physical sciences at the level of postgraduate studies. The basic aim being to build a core research and teaching faculty, and to promote and harness a research culture for a sustainable knowledge based society. The strategy involves development of teaching/research faculty at Institute of Nuclear Science & Technology (INST) that will provide sustainable support in guiding and motivating postgraduate students towards research competency. This is achieved through the Master of Science (MSc) in Nuclear Science at INST, and in partnership with collaborating and experienced scientists and institutions in the north.

IPPS KEN:03 – Photovoltaic group
This is a research group supported by ISP since 1998.
Objectives
The utilization of solar energy as a renewable, environmental-friendly and low-cost source of energy has been hampered by the cost-effectiveness of the technology. Solar energy for heating and PV applications are currently in use all over world. However, even though the production cost of solar cells and related accessories has dropped significantly over the years, the wide adoption solar cell technologies have remained elusive. The overall goal and objective of this research group is in the preparation and characterization of thin solid films for application in the harnessing of solar energy through photovoltaic means or otherwise. The strategy to achieve this is envisaged through optical modelling of thin films, the preparation and characterization of thin solid films, characterization is done via conductivity and Hall effect studies on thin film samples, testing for photocatalytic activity in thin films.
The group is also part of MSSEESA
