IPICS ETH:04 - Analytical Method Development and applications for Selective Extraction and Quantitative Determination of Organic and Inorganic Pollutants in Complex Matrices of Varying Origin
The support started in 2013. The group leader is an alumnus from Sida’s bilateral program with Addis Ababa University, and he has graduated from Lund University in 2010.
Objectives
To develop, optimize, validate and apply environmentally friendly sample preparation
techniques based on miniaturized analytical techniques for selective extraction of various organic and inorganic pollutants from agrochemical, industrial and municipal waste discharges and investigate the possibilities of improving signal separation performances by use of ionic liquid with the locally available minerals. As the outcome of the undertakings, it has been aimed to ensure building of sustainable research capacities both in terms of analytical instruments and skilled manpower capable to participate in solving various chemical pollution problems and advising the policy makers.

IPPS ETH:01 – Synthesis and Device Characterization of Organic Semiconductors
ISP support started in 1990, and was concluded in 2008 followed by interim support within Sida’s bilateral program with Addis Ababa University in 2009. The group was not included in the next phase of the bilateral program, and ISP support was reinstated in 2011.
Objectives
The objectives of the research project are to train students at MSc and PhD levels to enhance human resource capacity in the country who will be able to teach in the higher institutions as well as preparatory schools (senior secondary schools which prepare students for higher institutions) and also carry out intensive and sustainable basic and applied researches on modeling, computer simulation, and device characterization. Specifically, the group is aimed at doing a research on the electrical and optical properties of the conjugated organic polymers in general and those produced in the synthesis lab by the group in chemistry in particular.
