Treasury is looking for an experienced APS6 Cabinet Liaison Officer (CLO) to join the Parliamentary and Legal Services Division (PLSD).

The Parliamentary and Legal Services Division provides support to our ministers and the department through effective management of a number of key processes, including Cabinet liaison, ministerial correspondence, parliamentary, FOI and the coordination of the Department’s legal services.


Significant experience in the Cabinet process would be advantageous. The successful candidate must obtain a Negative Vetting Level 2 clearance (or be willing to undertake the process to gain such a clearance).
In this role you will undertake, but will not be limited to, the below tasks:


  • Manage the timely lodgement, distribution, custody and control of Cabinet and National Security (NSC) documents, including coordination comments;

  • Manage the Cabinet/NSC forecasts on behalf of the Department;

  • Provide accurate advice to ensure conformity with Cabinet protocols and guidelines;

  • Provide parliamentary support, including tabling of documents; and

  • Assist during the Budget period (including Budget lock-up). The ideal candidates will possess:

  • the ability to liaise effectively with internal and external clients and team members;

  • strong interpersonal skills with a flexible and constructive approach to tasks;

  • a willingness to work extended hours during peak periods and participate in an on-call roster (Restriction Allowance applies);

  • well-developed output management skills, with an ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure; and

  • excellent judgement, including a regard for sensitivities surrounding particular issues.

This recruitment process is being used to fill both ongoing and non-ongoing positions. Non-ongoing opportunities will be offered for a specified term for an initial period of up 12 to 18 months (determined by business requirements), with the possibility of extension up to three years.
