The project is built around the overall idea that managing of Emotional Intelligence (EQ) of students and youth contributes to better learning capabilities, work performance and increase employability. The educational systems in Europe are almost exclusively based on the idea of Intellectual Intelligence, while the EQ was largely neglected. A number of researches, has proven that dealing with EQ of students and youth can significantly improve their performance and have positive impact on personal and professional life. The elements considered under this project will be:
- Self-awareness – the ability to know one's emotions, strengths, weaknesses, drives, values and goals and recognize their impact on others.
- Self-regulation – involves controlling or redirecting one's disruptive emotions and impulses.
- Social skill – managing relationships to move people in the desired direction
- Empathy - considering other people's feelings especially when making decision
- Motivation - being driven to achieve for the sake of achievement.
The project can be considered highly INNOVATIVE, since it is practically for the first time at European level providing systematic analysis of EQ potentials of secondary school students, linking their specifics with youth unemployed population and young workers. The motive for preparation of the project is based on the following assumptions:
• Proper management of EQ elements can have significant impact on employability and work performance of youth;
• Secondary schools are registering relatively high levels of early school leaving, which can be partially contributed to inappropriate approach to individuals (EQ) specifics;
• Up-to now, no systematic empirical research was done, to clearly show linkage between EQ consideration in the educational system and youth work.
The SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES of the project are:
• To analyse in what way specific elements of Emotional Intelligence of individuals determine their future professional path.
• To develop methods and approaches which will allow use of Emotional Intelligence within the educational processes to decrease early school leaving, increase employability and improve work performance of young individuals.
The project is aiming at STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP of organisations from SEE, and will set a basis for network which would at a later stage attract other organisations and countries.
The project PARTNERS were selected in line with their previous experiences and competences. All have significant experiences in themes addressed by the project. The consortium consists of:
- Center Mladih, Slovenija;
- Clear View, FYROM;
- Centar za razvoj osebnosti, Croatia;
- MServis, Slovenija;
- Cempo, Slovenija.
The ACTIVITIES implemented under this project will be the following:
A0. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
A1. DEVELOPMENT OF THEORETICAL BASIS AND SELECTION OF PARTICIPANTS
A1.1. Preparation of theoretical basis, preparation of questionnaires
A1.2. Communication and selection of participants
A2. ANALYSIS OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE WITH DIRECT PARTICIPANTS
A2.1. Implementation of survey in the three participating countries
A2.2. Analysis of research and identification of practical implications
A3. PREPARATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PILOT TRAININGS
A3.1. Development of training materials and contents
A3.2. Training of trainers
A3.3. Selection of training participants
A3.4. Implementation of pilot training
A4. COMPILATION OF RESULTS AND PREPARATION OF PROPOSAL FOR POLICY MAKING LEVEL
A4.1. Registering of results and preparation of lessons-learned
A4.2. Preparation of system proposal for institutional and policy making level
The project will deliver the RESULTS listed rated as intellectual outputs:
- Analysis of EQ implemented;
- Training programmes prepared;
- Proposal for system and policy making level prepared.
Multiplier events:
- Organisation of two mid-term conferences and one final conference.
Training activities:
- Training of trainers;
- Pilot EQ training for direct participants.
Significant IMPACT on the following target groups will be provided:
- Students of secondary schools. The indirect participants will raise awareness of their EQ profiles and be able to manage their individual and professional path using the EQ elements in their future. The direct participants (trainees) will be able to maximise their potentials and eliminate deficiencies.
- Schools and teaching staff. The schools will receive significant knowledge based through training of trainers programme and project dissemination. They will improve their performance, provide tailor-made approach to students and decrease early leaving rates.
- System stakeholders and policy making level. The level will receive empirical proof on the benefits of EQ within the educational system and influence on youths’ professional and personal life. The partners will develop coherent proposal for introduction of EQ themes into regular educational processes.
